100% indexation and efficient crawling on a massive adult content directory, from scratch

A directory-style project in the adult content niche was starting from zero in one of the toughest markets there is: highly lucrative, routinely subject to unfair competition, legally complex and under constant attack. With thousands of paginated pages and listings, the critical problem was crawling and indexing: if Google couldn’t reach every listing, the directory simply didn’t exist as far as search engines were concerned.

The starting point

The challenge

Ranking in this niche means clearing barriers that don’t exist in other sectors:

  • Starting from zeroin a niche with aggressive, already established competition.
  • High profitability:which brings unfair competition and attacks (negative SEO, scraping and so on).
  • Legal complicationsand platform restrictions.
  • A massive directorywith thousands of paginated pages and listings: the main problem was getting Google to crawl and index all of it efficiently.
The strategy

How we approached it

On a project like this, what settles it is technical crawl efficiency plus external authority. We worked directly with the IT department to get granular control over crawler behaviour.

1

Working with IT on crawling

Direct coordination with the IT department to control crawler behaviour on a directory-style site with thousands of paginated pages and listings. A crawl strategy designed specifically for the site.

2

100% site indexation

Technical work on pagination, parameters, canonicalisation and robots so that Google reached and crawled every listing while not wasting crawl budget on useless pages.

3

External authority and positioning as an alternative

External authority work and contextual backlinks to build the domain quickly. Positioning the directory as an alternative to the sector’s major platforms, capturing comparison and migration queries.

On that foundation: an initial audit focused on architecture and crawling, keyword research oriented towards alternative and niche queries, technical base and Core Web Vitals, schemas adapted to the content type, and thorough crawl and indexation monitoring at both log file and Google Search Console level.

Visual results

Organic traffic and ranking keyword growth over the course of the project (Ahrefs screenshots, client brand anonymised):

≈26,000keywords at peak
≈13,000keywords in the top 20

Organic keywords (Ahrefs)A massive directory: total keywords scale and, in the final stretch, the high positions (orange) take off.

On a massive directory starting from zero, organic traffic scales to around 62,000 visits a month. Ranking keywords peak at ~26,000, and the most telling part is the final stretch: those in the top 20 shoot up to ~13,000, a sign that the architecture and efficient crawling meant Google didn’t just index the site, it ranked it wholesale.

The outcome

What we achieved

  • 100% indexation of the directory.Full indexation of every listing in the directory, plus technically efficient crawling that didn’t waste Google’s crawl budget.
  • Strong visibility within months.Established as an alternative to the niche’s major platforms, with visibility growing within a few months from a standing start.
  • Authority and resilience.External authority built on a solid technical base that withstands the attacks and unfair competition common in this niche.
